The South Salem Saxons boys basketball team defeated the Mountainside Mavericks 81–70 in the first round of the 2026 OSAA Class 6A Boys Basketball State Championship playoffs on Tuesday. On Wednesday night, the No. 6 ranked South Salem girls basketball team continued the success by defeating the No. 27 Ida B. Wells Guardians 59–32.
The boys victory was highlighted by senior combo guard Teagan Scott becoming South Salem’s all-time leading scorer. Scott finished the night with 27 points, bringing his career total to 1,840. In addition, three other players contributed double-digit figures for the Saxons: Brayden Fleener (14), Tko Westbrook (13) and Brett Gill (10), while Grant West narrowly missed with nine.
In the girls victory over Ida B. Wells, the Lady Saxons were led by Emma Burlison with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Autumn Palmer also contributed 12 points to the win, while Chica Casas scored 11.Â
Both South Salem teams carried strong momentum into the playoffs after finishing second in the Central Valley Conference during the regular season. The boys entered the postseason ranked 15th in the state, while the girls held the No. 6 ranking.
Next, the boys will travel to face the Central Catholic Rams tonight, with tip-off set for 7 p.m., with a spot in the state quarterfinals on the line. Meanwhile, the girls will host Oregon City tomorrow at 6 p.m., as they look to advance to the next round of the playoffs.
