Jumanji Remake

Rumors of a Jumanji remake have been spread since 2012. It has now been officially scheduled for release on  July 27, 2017. It has also been confirmed that the movie will star Dwayne Johnson and is rumored to also star comedian-actor Kevin Hart. The film, by screenwriter Jake Kasdan, will be a reimagining of the original 1995 film starring Robin Williams. It will be written  in a  more comedic direction, which explains the casting of Johnson and the rumors of the casting of Kevin Hart.
“I haven’t seen the original [Jumanji] in a long time, so I feel like it’s going to be good, considering it has Dwayne Johnson in it. I think making a remake is not insulting to the old one, but compliments it. Some [people] might think it’s insulting, considering what happened to Robin Williams, but I don’t think so,” Justine Grassman ‘17 said.
Johnson acknowledges the big shoes he has to fill and has promised on his Instagram “to deliver something cool and special.. and not screw the whole [darn] thing up.”
Some fans and critics are questioning how the movie will turn out after undertaking a comedic interpretation.
“I think it could be really good, if they stick true to the story. I don’t know how I feel about them going in a comedic direction. I like scary movies more than comedies, and so I think I will be disappointed. [Jumanji] would make a good thriller, so I think it would be better if they went in a more thriller, action-packed direction rather than a comedy,” Erica Tackman ‘16 said.
Despite the fact that Hollywood has been making more and more reboots these days, there are high hopes for this remake creating a memorable new interpretation of the original, considering the respectable casting.
