The Clypian

Best Beaches in Oregon

Because of Oregon’s location on the West Coast, there are plenty of beaches available to visit this summer. However, deciding which beach is the best to visit can be a bit of a challenge. To narrow down the list of options, the Clypian has researched three of the must-visit beaches on the Oregon coast.

  1. Agate Beach

Located in Newport, Agate Beach is named after the agate stones that can be found along the beach. Surfers will enjoy this beach because of the favorable conditions that can be found year round. If one grows tired of the beach, Newport is also home to attractions like the Yaquina Lighthouse and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. There are also many shops and restaurants available to visitors.
“I love Agate beach, that’s just a fun public beach. There’s usually a lot of people,” Lemon Marin ‘18 said.

  1. Pacific City

With three open-access beaches, Pacific City is perfect for the nature-loving beach goer. Activities include hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and camping. Mild winds also make this city a destination frequented by kite-flyers. Hang gliding and paragliding services are also available. Pacific City is also known for its large sand dune nestled in Cape Kiwanda that many enjoy climbing.
“I like that it’s usually less crowded, also the dune’s kind of fun because you can go up and see a really nice view and it’s not something that’s super expensive,” Emma Denbeste ‘17 said.

  1. Seaside

One of the most popular beach destinations in Oregon, Seaside offers a variety of attractions to keep visitors busy. Bicycling is a common mode of transformation to get around this city. Some attractions include the many arcades and restaurants around the city, as well as the classic carousel and Seaside Aquarium.
