Comedic Presidential Candidates

The race for president is always an event steeped in excitement, prestige, and importance, but there are always those candidates that take things less-than-seriously. America’s many elections have provided no shortage of these sorts, from music star Kanye West’s claim to run in years ahead, to the lesser-known Vermin Supreme, also known as the man with the boot on his head.
It was at the 2015 Video Music Awards that rapper Kanye West announced his plan to run for President of the United States in 2020, a claim which has drawn lots of media attention as he upholds his statement with the lyrics “In 2020 I’m gonna run the WHOLE election,” from his new album The Life of Pablo.
A not-so-well known figure, Vermin Supreme, has run for president for the past four consecutive elections. He is known as an American performance artist, known especially for the iconic giant boot he wears upside down as a hat. as well as the founder of the Free Pony Party, a political party that promises “a Free Pony for every American, to fund Time Travel Research, mandatory toothbrushing,” and “zombie preparedness.”
Perhaps the least known of the three is Howard Dean, a politician originally running for the Democrat nominee spot in 2004, who suddenly dropped out after a video of him making an odd noise went viral. A short video of him speaking at an Iowa rally shows him cheering back to a cheering crowd, making a very odd, monkey-like scream amongst it. Titled “Howard Dean’s Scream,” the video went viral at 2,799,984 views and counting. Dean dropped out abruptly after the incident, and not much has been heard of him since.
