Marching Band and Star Wars

South’s marching band has announced this year’s theme as Star Wars, following the superhero theme of yesteryear. Before that it was “spooky” and The Incredibles. Unlike previous years, which had the sets divided into three different movements, or three different sets of sheet music with varying themes, the Star Wars medley is one large conglomeration.
“This year’s show is very well-liked by those who are huge fans and those who are not,” Abby Orton ‘17, a marimba player, said. “The music itself is very popular.”
The Star Wars set consists of the Main Title, the Parade of the Ewoks, the Imperial March, Victory Celebration, and The Throne Room. Marching band members so far have learned the first two songs, with each performance receiving an addition as it is taught.
Each theme is chosen by Mr. Stokes, the band teacher, but suggestions from students are encouraged. It is generally announced to band members on the annual Spring Training day at the end of May or early June.
Marching band’s first show was on Sept. 16. Practice is twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
