Saxon Alum Athlete Spotlight: Christian Russell

Christian Russell is a true freshman walk on for the Oregon State Beavers men’s basketball team. He finished his senior season at South and was a starter for the Saxons. While on the Saxon team, they made it to the 6A playoffs and took 3rd in state. Now that Oregon State has a big man in their backcourt,  they can try for another run in the NCAA tournament.
“Christian is going to redshirt this season. We expect him to continue to work hard in practice and be a great teammate, as he’s been doing since he joined the program,” Wayne Tinkle, head basketball coach of Oregon State University, said.
Russell has had a positive relationship with the rest of the team since he joined.
“He brings a lot of passion for the Beavers basketball [team] and has gained the respect of his teammates with his attitude and effort,” Tinkle said
Further success in the season is expected to be a team effort for the Beavers.
“We expect the entire team to contribute in different ways,” Tinkle said. “We have a very young team so we need to play hard on both ends and gain experience as the season progresses.”
