You've Heard of a White Christmas, Now Get Ready for a Green Christmas: Why Oregon Winter Weather Sucks

Almost everyone is familiar with the hit tune White Christmas by Irving Berlin, or will be soon, after all the radio stations switch to a Christmas theme. The singer croons that he’s dreaming of a “white Christmas,” complete with glistening tree tops and “sleigh bells in the snow.”
Berlin would be quite disappointed were he to spend the holidays in Oregon.
Traditionally, Oregon is a mild climate. According to US Climate Data, the average high temperature during the month of December is 46 degrees Fahrenheit, with the low being 34. December also has the highest rate of rainfall, with 6.85 inches during the month, closely followed by November and January. Winter officially begins Dec. 21, four days before Christmas, although Oregon temperatures are prone to drop much sooner.
While December does have an average of two inches of snow per year, it is rare for it to actually stick on the ground.
