Ellie Slama ‘17 signed to play golf at Oregon State University on Nov. 9. Slama plans to study kinesiology at OSU and hopes to pursue a career in physical therapy.
Slama is a key member of both the swim and golf teams at South Salem High School. Slama has been golfing and swimming competitively for ten years, and has been competing with South’s golf, swim, and cross country teams since her freshman year.
“My favorite thing about sports at South is meeting new people and making friends. Each sport has a different group of people and it’s really cool to see people that usually wouldn’t be friends, become friends,” Slama said.
Slama’s participation in sports both for the school and outside of South’s teams has impacted her life greatly, opening doors socially and professionally, and giving her many opportunities to travel the United States for national tournaments to compete against a variety of opponents. Slama credits her father for her competitive drive and love for sports, discussing his impact on her training habits and long standing support of her athletics.
“He’s for sure my biggest supporter, at all my tournaments and races no matter where or when.” Slama said.
Slama will finish out her senior season at South this year, leading the Saxons in a 5-0 golf season and undefeated in the Greater Valley Conference. She will compete in girls golf districts on May 1 and 2.
