South has a tradition of holding a girls PowderPuff football game at the end of the year. This tradition has gone on for roughly 20 years. The PowderPuff game took place on the football field at 6 p.m. on May 26. The senior girls faced off against the junior girls in a flag football game.
The teams were coached by other students that have played football and have volunteered to help. The seniors won bragging rights over the juniors in their 14-7 win. They came into the game looking for redemption for losing Color Wars this year, and they got it. The event always brings a large crowd every year, along with a fun, competitive atmosphere to this game of football (with a twist.)
“We’re better than we were last year. The Juniors don’t stand a chance”. Faith Schuetz ‘17, a player on the senior team, said.
PowderPuff is classified as a non-physical game, meaning no real pushing or hitting will be accepted on the field during play. Unlike regular football, the girls did not have a kickoff. Instead they will took every possession after a score 20 yards from their endzone. But, like regular football, the girls played an eleven on eleven game. Every player from each team is expected to play at least one snap during the game. Last year the seniors won, and this year’s seniors followed in their footsteps..
