The Saxon’s Wrestling Team has started the season with a has started off the season strong with impressive performances by Kelton Bollier ‘19, Joey Wozniak ‘20, Julian “Frog” Ortiz ‘20, and Tanner Nichols ‘22. With the first two tournaments finished, second year coach Scott Default pointed out the importance of wrestlers becoming more competitive by getting in the right spots in the lineup in order to help the team before the dual meet season starts after winter break.

“We have a lot of work to do in the area of technique, toughness and plain simple mat experience,” Default said when discussing the how young this year’s team is.

Despite being a young squad, the Saxon wrestling team has seen a consistent commitment of 35 dedicated wrestlers who are on the mats five days a week for either practices or games.

When asked about wrestling in general and what needs to be done when on the mat assistant coach Wes Hughes said, “Wrestling is about the struggle… it’s about getting out of your comfort zone and persevering so you can learn to apply those skills to real life situations.”
