Ways To Pass Time In Quarantine

Over the past couple of weeks a lot has changed in the Salem-Keizer community. With a national emergency being announced, many are concerned about the health of not only themselves but also their loved ones. We have all been advised to stay safe and have physical contact with as few people as possible, along with canceling travel plans. While some ignore these warnings, many have chosen to stay home over the quarantine to try and ensure the safety of everyone they can. Before self-quarantining, make sure there is enough food and other necessities enabling isolation and take steps like washing hands and using hand sanitizer to stop the potential spread of the virus.

Though it is not fun, spring cleaning has probably never been more important than now. Spring cleaning can be a way to help protect ourselves and our families. Another option of what to do in quarantine is to watch television or spend hours on phones or other technology, even though that is something we all do anyways. Playing video games, binging a show or making use of the week long free trials offered by various streaming platforms, such as Disney+, can be a fun way to spend a day.

Technology is taking over our lives but if it seems to be too much, pick up a good book. Whether it is required reading for school or a pleasurable pastime, reading is one way to make these weeks go by faster. Getting outside is also really important during this time. Take a walk, ride a bike or go on a run to pass the time. Make sure to stay away from parks or trails that could have a lot of people, but if there are, just keep a safe distance between everyone.

With at least a month on our hands, there is plenty of time to complete any homework or other school assignments we have fallen behind on. This can help grades when we return to school and keep our minds working during the long break.

As long as proper hygiene rules are met, cooking is a way to relieve stress and create something beautiful and yummy. Cooking or baking can take hours and the end result, even if it does not taste great, will always allow some new learning to be taken away from the time spent in the kitchen.

Doing any type of craft is another way the break from school can be filled. Crafting can allow anything to be made, whenever creativity flows a piece of art can be created. This includes but is not limited to painting, knitting, drawing, origami, scrapbooking or embroidery.

Over these next couple of weeks, many will be taking to their homes and staying away from the general population to try and help slow the spread of the Coronavirus in any way they can. While at home it can be hard to come up with ways to stay entertained, but staying healthy is the largest priority and allowing time for the United States to figure out the best way to help everyone is essential.
