On Wednesday, April 8 Bernie Sanders dropped out of the presidential race, leaving many surprised and disappointed. Sanders was one of the top Democratic candidates leading up to the election in Nov., so why did he drop out?
Sanders, as popular as he was, decided to end his run for the President of the United States after losing several primaries to his competitor Joe Biden. This leaves Biden as the Democratic nominee for the upcoming election.
Sanders, though was not able to continue his presidential journey, has impacted the public in many different ways with his plans to help everyone, not only during this difficult time but throughout his whole presidency, if he were to be elected. This includes Medicare For All, lessening or diminishing student debt and free four year colleges. This only created a more stable support from young voters, most of which supported Sanders and his campaign.
Ultimately, even with all of his success, Sanders was losing the race against Biden. Bernie Sanders made a hard decision to end his campaign not only because he was losing, but because he felt as though his resources were needed more elsewhere in this difficult time. His decision also helped unify the Democratic Party behind Biden; Biden tweeted shortly after the announcement commending Sanders for all he has done for this country and all he will continue to do.
This event leaves two people in the running for the presidency, Joe Biden and the current President Donald Trump. Sanders’ campaign has created an effect among many for which he will not be forgotten, he has and continues to be an active force in politics. In the end, Biden will be the Democratic nominee to face off against Trump in the Nov. presidential election.
