Eddy Binford-Ross wins Oregon Journalist of the Year

It was announced earlier today that Clypian’s Editor-in-Chief Eddy Binford-Ross won Oregon’s Journalist of the Year through the Oregon Journalism Education Association. 

The title includes the Alyce Sheetz Scholarship for $1,000. She is also now eligible for the National Journalist of the Year award which will be announced later this year. 

Binford-Ross has worked for the Clypian for all four years of high school. She served as the News Editor during her sophomore year and earned the title of Editor-in-Chief her junior year. She has continued to work as the Editor-in-Chief throughout her senior year.

She received national attention this past summer for her coverage of protests in Salem and Portland, Oregon. She was the subject of profile stories in the Washington Post, the Oregonian, the Neiman Foundation, the Salem Reporter, the Student Press Law Center and more. Binford-Ross also spoke on multiple regional and national news sources including MSNBC, Vice News, KGW and FOX12. Her video footage of the protests were used by a various well-known organizations and channels, such as, PBS NewsHour, ABC’s Good Morning America and Reuters.

After graduating high school, Binford-Ross plans to attend Georgetown University, majoring in International Politics and minoring in journalism.
