After two long years of wearing masks and many COVID-19 restrictions things are finally going back to somewhat normal. With the indoor mask mandate recently being lifted many students choose to continue to wear a mask while other students have chosen not to, it all depends on your situation and personal matters
When people think of the last two years, they think about restrictions and having to wear a mask and not being able to truly see people. At times it can get tiring because sometimes it could be hard to understand what people are saying with the mask muffling them. Without being able to see facial expressions it was difficult to know how people really feel because you are able to tell a lot from a person’s facial expressions and masks took that away.
The past two years have been crazy for everybody with everything from people losing jobs because of businesses closing down to not being able to do things you were able to do before Covid. Now, with the indoor mask mandate being lifted we are a step closer to things going back to how they were before.
“It didn’t really affect me, it was just all a sudden change and kinda shocking but I respect everyone’s opinions and if they decide it was better for them to take it off or not that was fine too” Said Jackie Romero ‘25 when she was asked about how the mask lifting affected her.
The mask lifting has affected people in more ways than one. It has also affected students specifically and it has completely changed the way we socialize and what we think fun is. In the beginning of Covid, students were excited for spring break and when there was speculation that we would have an extra week everybody was excited, until one extra week turned into two years.
“I don’t look at people differently if they do decide not to wear a mask,” said Romero ’25 when asked about her opinion on being able to see people’s faces again. She brings up a really strong point by not acting a certain way towards someone whether they wear a mask or not. Many people believe we should wear a mask and many people believe we should not wear a mask, but in the end we are all humans trying to live in a world with many issues and when we turn on each other nothing good ever comes out of it.
