This Month in Salem-Keizer: April 2022

DECA Participants Return from ICDC

On the 28, over 50 South Salem DECA participants made it back from the DECA International Career Development Conference [ICDC] in Atlanta. During their trip there was a bit of a scare on the 23 near the opening ceremony, due to a shooting which hurt five teenagers—unrelated to DECA—which happened near Waffle House where DECA participants were walking. They heard the gunshots, it caused panic, they dove for cover, then ran, but again ultimately nobody other than those five unrelated teenagers were injured.

Fake & Fatal: What Parents and Teens Need to Know

On the 27, a virtual event was announced to be held on May 4 to educate students and parents about the dangers of fake pills contaminated with fentanyl. Want to join in? Register on Eventbrite and get the Zoom link.

CTEC Program Develops

On April 4, CTEC opened the doors to the center’s newest public-serving program, the CTEC Café. It was originally meant to open in the spring of 2020, but was delayed because of COVID-19. Additionally, on April 12 SKPS CTEC was scheduled to receive a $100,000 donation from Ashley HomeStores  for program improvement. Needless to say, this looks promising for students participating in CTEC.

Day of Silence

April 8 is the day of silence, a day meant to bring attention to the silence faced by the LGBTQ+ community. Due to our schedule this year at South, it was observed on the 5. Read more about it on the Clypian.
