The South Salem softball team will be hosting Roseburg in the first round of the OSAA state playoffs on Monday, May 22nd. This will not be the first time South has seen Roseburg, beating them 8-1 earlier in the season.
Currently, the Saxon softball team has an overall record of 18-5 and is going into their playoff game ranked 6th in state, while Roseburg has a record of 10-16 and is going into the game ranked 27th.
“I think we’re very prepared for playoffs. We’ve had some rough games and some really good games, which have all prepared us for what we’re gonna face in playoffs,” says second baseman Ashley Orr, freshman varsity starter.
In their last game four games, the team has only allowed two runs and have destroyed all their opponents. Currently, they have won thirteen out of their last fourteen games and going to the playoffs on a roll.
The team’s starting pitcher, Junior Rowan Thompson, is also confident that her and her team will do well at playoffs.
“I feel really prepared, and I feel really more confident in my defense than I ever have so I feel really good about that and I think that’s the thing that’s gonna prepare us the most,” Rowan said.
It’s not just the players that feel ready for this game, but also the coaches.
“We actually are playing somebody that we’ve played before so they’re not an unknown entity,” said Assistant Coach Norris, who has been coaching softball at South for the past twenty five years.
Going into playoffs, the team seems excited and determined. They’re looking to work hard and advance to the next round of playoffs.
