A “Slime You Out” Review

Drake and SZA, two very popular artists, just released their first single together, “Slime You Out” on September 15. The single serves as a lead up to Drake’s eighth studio album, “For All the Dogs.”

The five minute long song is mellow-rap, with the two of them going back and forth about the lies and disappointment of others. Many fans of Drake and SZA say that the song lacked an important beat progression which made the song sound flat and not very interesting and I agree. I think that without the contribution of SZA this song would be too ‘one dimensional’.

While listening to this song it made me feel sort of depressed and down. The lyrics are not very positive and the melody is pretty mellow.

I enjoyed SZA’s addition to “Slime You Out”, her voice really carries the whole song. If I could alter the song, I would add in an additional melody to contrast with the existing mellow one to add a focal point to the song. To me this song is something that could easily be. pushed into the background while listening to without even realizing.

This was a mediocre lead single for, “For All the Dogs.”

Hopefully future songs off the album will have some more depth. I would rate this song a 4/10 because I feel like it lacked a beat and creativity.
