The South Salem Saxons defeated the Roseburg Indians during their homecoming game on last week’s rainy Friday. The Saxons’ record now improved to 7-0 in their regular season.
The Saxon’s offense quickly took off at the beginning of Friday night’s game. Although having an air-raid offense the rainy weather did not stop the Saxons from getting a jump start in the first half. The Saxons headed into halftime with a shut-out 51-0 over Roseburg.
Touchdowns were made by seniors Esteban Mendez, DJ James and Tristan Geer. Quarterback Athan Palmateer threw for three of the Saxon’s nine touchdowns of the night, running in two himself. Lineman Hatimu Letisi made a touchdown off of a fumble recovery.
In the second half, both South Salem and Roseburg scored, bringing the game to a gapping 63-7. With that, the South Salem Saxons won their homecoming game and handed the Roseburg Indians their sixth loss of the season. The Saxons will attempt to keep their untouched record heading into next week’s game at Sprague High School against the Sprague Olympians.
