Presidential Candidate Review

This year’s presidential campaign has garnered a lot of attention from not only citizens of the US, but from countries around the world as well. In a month, either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump will command the nation’s military, hold control of the nuclear codes, and make decisions within the US. It is up to the potential voters in the United States to decide which candidate will have these responsibilities.
In terms of who is more qualified for presidential leadership based on political background, Clinton wins with 20 years in government positions. Trump, a real estate mogul, has never served a term in a public office.
“With Trump, he’s very childish; if he doesn’t get his way he throws a fit and that’s not a quality a leader should have,” Ada Martin ‘19 said.
A concern with both candidates is their personalities, and whether they would make a good fit to be president. Clinton’s email scandal and her past involvement in issues such as Benghazi have raised concerns among students. However, some say that being involved in politics for as long as Clinton has comes with the allowance for a few errors.
“I would assume that she would lie in the future because she already got away with it once,” Martin said .
Trump’s controversial approach to his stances on topics such as female equality, the refugee crisis, and immigration has been another concern of students. Trump has also been known to try and change his words after he has said them, as demonstrated by his infamous quote about Megan Kelly, making him potentially untrustworthy as well.
“I don’t like the fact that he wants to build a wall, that seems a bit drastic. From what I’ve been told he seems like he doesn’t want to accept immigrants, and I don’t think that that’s what America is about,” Martin said.
However the election turns out, the race will be a close one, as Clinton currently leads Trump by two points according to a CNN poll.
