After three long years, South Salem High School is finally hosting a homecoming dance. Homecoming is a welcome back to school event, with a football game and a semi-formal dance the following day.

Along with this, there is also a homecoming court, where a group of people are selected from each graduating class to represent South as homecoming royalty. It is a High School tradition and is to welcome Saxon alumni back to South to enjoy and remember their days in high school. The homecoming dance will be hosted in the gym on Oct. 22 at 8:00 pm.

“My freshman year homecoming was pretty fun, the best part about it was dressing up and going out to dinner with my friends.” Kate Campbell ‘23 said.

Students enjoy and create new memories by dressing up, attending the dance with friends, and rooting for their team during the football game. This opportunity was postponed because of Covid-19.

“I think that the seniors, who were here before Covid-19 hit, know what Saxon spirit was like, and I’m hoping that this dance will bring back the school spirit it used to have.” Claire Campbell ‘23 said. She also stated that she’s happy about homecoming finally returning and that she’ll be able to experience it one more year.

The seniors at South are the only ones who have experienced and know what Homecoming is like. To the rest of the student body, it’s still a mystery.
