South Salem High School’s Golf Season is Getting into Full Swing

It is officially golf season for South Salem High School. This year, South has a new girls golf coach, or should we say coaches. Mr. Howard and his wife Mrs. Howard have decided to take on girls golf for the South Saxons. Coach Stroup will once again be teaching South’s boys golf team, making it his 3rd year. Both girls and boys golf practice will be three times a week, Monday through Wednesday at Creekside Golf Club. Girls are required to wear polos or collared shirts with the option of pants, skirts, shorts or leggings. Boys are required to also wear polo or collared shirts and non denim pants or shorts. There currently are 8 girls signed up for the girls golf team and 11 boys signed up for the boys golf team.

Kaden Vincent, a senior at South, was asked how long he has been playing golf for South and what he is hoping to achieve this season. He said,

“I’ve been playing since I was a freshman. I am a senior now.  This season will be 4 years.”

“I want to achieve consistent play and scores and to play well enough to make the state roster.”  Vincent said.

One of the girls on the girls golf team, Audrey Willmschen, was asked why she joined the golf team and what she is most excited for. She said,

“I joined the golf team because I’ve been playing it since I was little and I really like the sport.”

“I’m probably most excited to meet my teammates and participate in tournaments with them.” Willmschen said
