One of South Salem High School’s counselors has come back after a year long break, learn a little about Mr. Marshall.
“So I’m pumped to get to know everybody on this caseload. I hope to meet with every single student by the end of the school year. I can’t promise that will happen, but that certainly is a goal,” said Ryan Marshall.
Mr. Marshall was gone for an entire school year but he’s back now and excited to get to know the name group he counsels. He covers last names Kr- Ni.
“I want them to know that no matter what brings them into my office, or here to school, that I firmly believe in their value and their worth. And that it’s not up for debate that they are valuable. They are worth it. And they have someone, at least one adult here who believes in them and their future,” said Mr. Marshall.
A counselor’s job is to let the person talk about issues or problems. They are here to help and make the person feel comfortable and safe in their environment.
“I was on sabbatical, which means I got to be a learner. I spent a year studying to be a better counselor, and to help students and families in better and deeper and more profound ways. It was an incredible year and I’m super grateful for it.” Said Mr. Marshall.
