Over the course of President Donald Trump’s second presidency, he has made many questionable decisions, which were expected by opposing parties. However, some of his decisions have gone too far. These decisions received backlash from his former supporters, many of whom have major political roles.
Marjorie Taylor Greene
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former representative and advocate for MAGA (Make America Great Again) has recently vocalized against Trump. Her criticisms revolved around recent controversies such as the war with Iran and the Epstein files. She used these controversies as proof of Trump betraying his promise of putting America first, which he used during his campaign. Greene has publicly criticized the President on X (formally Twitter), especially regarding his posts regarding the war with Iran.
“25 AMENDMENT!!! Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization. This is evil and madness,” Greene responded to Trump’s post on X (formally Twitter), which claimed that the entire civilization of Iran would perish.
Although Trump has retaliated to Greene’s posts by calling her a traitor, Greene so far has stood firm in her resistance against her former colleague, and has continued to criticize the Trump administration.
Candace Owens
Another former advocate for MAGA, Candace Owens has come out against Trump, saying she was embarrassed having advocated for him in the 2024 elections. Owens has mostly criticized US involvement with conflicts with Iran and Israel, calling Trump a failure, a coward and claiming his recent actions have betrayed his promise to prioritize America.
“He’s been a chronic disappointment. And I feel embarrassed that I told people to go vote for him because this wasn’t going to happen, and it is happening,” Owens said on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
Joe Rogan
Another popular MAGA influencer and podcaster Joe Rogan has also voiced criticism for Trump. His criticisms have specifically been regarding the war with Iran, the handling of the Epstein files and recent immigration laws that have come into place since Trump’s inauguration.
“It just seems so insane based on what he ran on. I mean, this is why a lot of people feel betrayed, right? He ran on no more wars, end these stupid, senseless wars and then we have one that we cannot even really clearly define why we did it,” Rogan said.
Although Rogan has been public about his political views, and endorsed Trump in 2024, he has been a large political critic. Specifically regarding the demolition of the White House and the Presidential Hall of Fame, even calling MAGA dorky.
Why now?
Many news outlets and political affiliated social media accounts have questioned why recent controversies like the war in Iran and the Epstein files have been the breaking point to no longer support Trump. Even though controversies regarding Trump have even ranged back to before his first presidency in 2016, he has very rarely received any repercussions for his actions from fellow Republican figures. The common consensus seems to be that now that Trump is going as far to condemn death to the entire country. Former conservative supporters are finally able to see how unethical his entire political career has been.
Former MAGA activists don’t want to be found guilty of condemning a war crime, even though they have spent an entire decade defending Trump throughout his presidency, as well as defending the controversies from before his presidency.
