This year, South Salem High School has implemented a new pep assembly, set to take place on September 18th, to help assimilate and build morale for new students for the school year. Pep assemblies are a vital opportunity for Freshman and new students to gain school spirit, unite each grade level, and get to know South’s staff and Associated Student Body (ASB).
“We wanted to give students another opportunity to express their Saxon Pride and provide something fun for the start of school, instead of waiting all the way till May for Color Clash!” said Tuesday Garrison ‘27.
ASB 2026-27 Introductions
At this assembly, students had the opportunity to be introduced to some committed leaders at South, such as ASB President Tuesday Garrison and ASB Vice President Gisabelle Espericueta ‘27. Students also get to play games, and appreciate the fall athletes and the South cheer team.
“Every study in education says students who are involved in a school activity, along with a sense of belonging in their school perform higher. I think it’s important for all students at South to know we have something here for them to be involved in.” Activities Director Aaron Howard said. “Student council and Leadership students are excited to highlight all those opportunities this year.”
Fostering Community
Students also got a breakdown of upcoming sport and community events.
“South’s community is so welcoming and wonderful, and even more so for newer students because of our amazing programs and the diversity we have within our halls!” Tuesday Garrison ‘27 said. “Being a Saxon is cool and can lead to so many amazing connections, experiences, and friendships!”
