On Sept. 25, the South Salem Saxons played the McMinnville Grizzlies at Wortman Stadium at 7 p.m. The Saxons won 56-22.
At halftime, the Saxons led 35-14. The offense scored five touchdowns and finished with 378 total yards. Sam Johnson ‘27 averaged 26 yards a catch and one touchdown. Ben Greer ‘27 and Mateo Soto ‘28 both scored two touchdowns.
Greer quickly started the second half with a touchdown six minutes into the third quarter. Kellen Bowman ‘27 threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Johnson and a 75-yard touchdown pass to Kacedro Rodgers ‘27. By the end, Bowman completed 30 of 42 passes for 71%.
This win leaves the Saxons at 4-0 and ranked No.1 in OSAA 6A. Their next game is the Mayor’s Cup against the North Salem Vikings on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
