How To Best Prepare For Finals

Finals week at South Salem High School starts on Monday, January 30th and ends on Wednesday, February 1st. With the date coming up very soon, it is crucial to know what to do to prepare. With years of experience, I think I know the best ways to succeed. Below I will share my favorite tips and tricks on surviving finals week.

  1. Sleep. This is easier said than done. Sometimes people get lost in cramming the night before and neglect one of the most important things. Sleeping can increase focus, improve moods and give lots of energy before test day.
  1. Eat and drink water. It is important to eat and stay hydrated to help with performance. I eat a big breakfast and keep my water bottle with me at all times.
  1. Study. (Duh!) The method of studying depends on the person. My personal favorite method is presenting the information to someone else because it helps the information to stick in my brain. Some people like reading books, other people like taking quizzes, and other people like taking notes. Everything depends on personal preference.
  1. Affirmations. Overall, the most important thing for me is that I trust that I know what I’m doing and remind myself that grades don’t define me.

During this finals season, remember that grades do not indicate a person’s worth.
