Olivia Rodrigo released her second album, “GUTS” on September 8, 2023 through Geffen Records. This release comes more than two years after the release of her debut album, “SOUR”. The release of this album has helped to keep her name relevant in pop culture as she has not released any projects since her debut album. Due to the growing popularity of the album, I have decided to provide my opinion and review all 12 songs.

  1. “all-american b*tch”

I think that this song had a lot of potential but it is stuck up and it shows a lot of ego. For example, she goes on and on about all the things she is, like how she is “built like a mother” and has “perfect all-american hips.” Throughout the song she talks about things she has that most girls are insecure about not having.

  1. “bad idea right?”

I do not think it is an awful song, it has a good sound. However, she is promoting bad decision making and not to mention, it is overused.

  1. “vampire”

This song is a good song but it is really overused and everywhere online. The song is good because it is catchy and everyone loves a good breakup song. Overall it is not a bad song, I am just tired of hearing it.

  1. “lacy”

I think that this is the best song on the album. Her voice sounds really good and pretty. I think that her voice does best in higher-pitched songs that have a more classical feel about them, which makes this song a good listen.

  1. “ballad of a homeschooled girl”

Honestly this song should be called “social suicide” because she consistently says that. She says “social suicide” not one, not two but 13 times.

  1. “making the bed”

I think that this song is really good and it comes in second place to “lacy”. When I listen to this it makes me imagine myself in a car singing this song while it rains heavily. Her emotions are clearly expressed throughout the song which gives it a depressive tone.

  1. “logical”

It does not have a bad sound but it sounds like her older music, which I am not particularly a big fan of. This song was definitely made for fans of Rodrigo’s debut album.

  1. “get him back!”

The song definitely is not the best but it surely is not the worst.  When she is singing in this song it almost sounds like she is talking, which I am not a fan of. However, the chorus is pleasant as well as catchy. Overall this song sounds like it should be in a Disney show, which does make sense considering she was a Disney actor.

  1. “love is embarrassing”

I would not say this song sucks because she sings it well and you can feel her pain when she sings, but it is a rock genre song which is not my kind of music. While others  may enjoy this, I do not.

  1.  “the grudge”

This song hits a certain spot and would truly be so fun to sing along to, but for me it requires the right time and place to want to listen to it. While it is not a bad song it  sounds rather generic coming from her.

  1.  “pretty isn’t pretty”

While this is not my type of song, it does spread a positive message about how people should not change themselves for others.

  1.  “teenage dream”

Something I like about this song is that it is dedicated to her younger self in a way. Even though the purpose of the song is sweet it is like many other songs on the album in the way that it falls in the rock genre. While it is a nice way to close out the album, it is not my cup of tea.

Overall, this album is decent and has a couple of really good songs. “lacy” and “making the bed” are the two songs that make this album worthwhile. This new era of music shows a great amount of growth from her last album.
