Martin’s ASB Contributions

Dances, fundraisers and other events held by South Salem High School aren’t just done on their own, Brycen Martin, ASB treasurer plays a big role in it all.

Martin, a junior at South, is passionate about being highly involved in the community. He has organized many events and has future plans for many more. As of 2024, he has helped run the MOD Pizza fundraiser that brought in nearly $1000, three school-sanctioned dances and helped organize funding for a few student-led events.

His role as ASB treasurer includes acting as an advisor for fundraising events that are run by the student council, as well as making sure that each class’ designated student council can remain successful with financial goals.

“I have really enjoyed collaborating with my classmates and opening myself up to interactions with people I would not have regularly interacted with,” Martin said.

In his freshman year at South, he took a slight interest in the idea of running for council and his advisor Mrs. Linares supported his aspirations. Though Martin feels successful in his role, it was not his initial intention to continue with being a treasurer.

Originally, I ran for treasurer in my sophomore year because it was the only position that I thought I had a chance at, but I quickly realized that I enjoy organizing fundraisers and allocating funding for different projects,

Athletics, School Community and Future Plans

Not only is he a successful ASB Treasurer, but he is also captain for the cross country team at South. Along with that, he is a distance runner for the track team in the Spring. Martin has been running for approximately 3.5 years and plans on continuing to run in college. In addition to college plans, he is preparing for it by becoming a candidate for the International Baccalaureate diploma.  He dreams of attending Massachusetts Institute of Technology but most likely will attend Oregon State University and join the Multiple Engineering Cooperative Program (MECOP), an internship sponsored by OSU.
