The South Salem girls soccer team ended its regular season with a 7-5-2 record ranked 29th in the state. On Tuesday, Oct. 27 the Saxons traveled to Tualatin High School for a play-in game. A play-in game is a qualifying match to get into the official state bracket. While this concept is not new, the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) implemented it to lower the number of teams in the bracket.
The Tualatin Timberwolves are ranked 21st in state with a 6-7-1 record. Last season, the Timberwolves lost in the second round of playoffs, ending the season ranked 11th in the state. They only lost one regular-season game plus the loss in the second round of playoffs. Due to their previous standings last year, they faced many higher ranked teams than the Saxons faced.
The Saxons lost to Lake Oswego in the first round of playoffs leaving them ranked 25th in the state last season. They ended the 2025 season with a 8-7-1 record. While the Timberwolves faced tougher opponents than the Saxons, they lost most of those matchups—though they pulled off a key upset against sixth-ranked La Salle Prep.
The Saxons lost to the Timberwolves 2-0.
The Saxons recorded several wins, including a victory against the West Salem Titans 2-0 on Oct. 19, anchored by a mulit-goal performance from Talia Jones ‘27. The Saxons fought to a 2-2 tie against the McNary Celtics.
Building momentum throughout conference play the team strung together mulit-game win steaks and backed by a solid defense.
Looking ahead the program will graduate nine players. Senior Jones plans to play Division One soccer, continuing her soccer career at Georgia Southern University.
